Our Proud Family History in the Community

The Pharmacy Group is a third generation family-owned business with 30 NHS community pharmacies across Yorkshire. Each one our Pharmacies is integrated into its local community and has a long history with the area in which it provides its services.

In 1984, our founder, pharmacist Barry Lestner, established our first community pharmacy in East Leeds.

In 1984, David Lestner qualified as a pharmacist and spent the next 30 years working closely with his father Barry and local General Practitioners, expanding The Pharmacy Group across the Yorkshire region.

His son, Jason Lestner qualified as a pharmacist in 2011 and worked alongside david to further expand The Pharmacy Group into new communities, whilst adding new specialist services such as care home pharmacy services and vaccination clinics.

Our Transition

We understand the importance of a local pharmacy within the community, and believe patients can get a much better all-round experience by using them. Providing patients with an accessible and high-quality health service is something online pharmacies have historically struggled to achieve.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, an increasing number of people are choosing to get their prescription from an online pharmacy as they feel it is a safer and more convenient option. This has massive detrimental effect on a local pharmacy and the surrounding community.

Online pharmacies operate nationwide from a central distribution hub using third party couriers to deliver medications directly to patients. They cannot provide a personalised healthcare and specialised services aligned to the specific healthcare needs of the community. Furthermore, they cannot engage locally to raise health awareness issues and health prevention initiatives.

For example, an online pharmacy can’t ask if you need a flu vaccination or recommend an OTC treatment for your hay fever or cold.

Delivery Service

Delivering a Better Local Pharmacy

We recognise that to succeed in the current digital era, local pharmacies and healthcare businesses must stay relevant and responsive to the needs of patients in their respective communities.

Our vision is to provide an innovative local pharmacy service for patients and carers by having both a digital and physical presence in the community. This enables patients to access the convenience of online pharmacy services whilst, seamlessly, maintaining their link with Local Community Pharmacy.

This will ensure the sustainability of the Local Community Pharmacy network whilst enabling both digital and face-to face-services to be personalised to local patients and the healthcare needs of the community moving forward.

We aim to influence the overall health of the community by engaging locally to raise health awareness issues and promote healthy living initiatives. We work with local organisations and charities to support our local communities, which in turn help us understand the health needs of our patients.
